Contempt case: Scribe deposes before SC

Kathmandu, April 27:

Editor of the Dirshti weekly, Shambhu Shrestha, today submitted his written clarification to the Supreme Court regarding the news on delay of verdict in a corruption case against governor and executive director of the Nepal Rastra Bank.

Shrestha stated that the weekly was playing the role of supporter of the judiciary by disclosing irregularities inside the NRB.

“The Supreme Court should not prohibit right to speak and publish,” he said in his written clarification, according to a release issued by the weekly today.

The Supreme Court had asked Shrestha to furnish written explanation after advocate Tek Bahadur Rawal filed a case of contempt of the court against the weekly for publishing news and editorial on the SC verdict.

The verdict was issued by Supreme Court Justice Tahir Ali Ansari in a graft case against Nepal Rastra Bank governor Bijaya Nath Bhattarai and executive director Surendra Pradhan.

The weekly had stated that financial mafia was behind the delay in issuing the verdict by the Supreme Court judge Ansari.
