Counting begins in ANNFSU election

Kathmandu, February 18

Counting of votes in the election held for the new leadership of All Nepal National Free Students Union is beginning tomorrow.

According to Somnath Pyasi, chairperson of Central Election Commission, CPN-UML, vote counting will begin from 11:00 am tomorrow. He said the election that began from 5:00 pm yesterday ended at around 4:30 am today.

He said ote counting will begin tomorrow as all people involved in the voting process were tired today. Pyasi informed that the ballot boxes have been kept at UML party office.

Of the total 1,597 voters, 1,520 cast their votes, while 77 voters were absent, he added.

Two panels of ANNFSU cadres close to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Madhav Kumar Nepal are in the fray for the chairmanship of the organisation.

Nabina Lama, general secretary, has filed her candidacy for the post of chairperson from the Oli panel while Deepak Gautam, vice president, is also vying for the same post from the Nepal panel.

Similarly, Abdul Hussain Khan and Ain Mahar are in the fray for the post of general secretary.

The 22nd national general convention of ANNFSU will elect a chairperson, four vice presidents and a general secretary through open competition.

Similarly, of the seven secretaries, four secretaries will be elected through open competition, while the remaining three will be nominated from reservation quotas.

Apart from this, chiefs of three committees disciplinary, election and account 17-member standing committee and a 141-member central committee will be elected during the convention.

The three-day convention had begun on February 11 but due to dispute over convention representatives, it was prolonged for more than a week.
