CPN-Maoist begins debate on party unity
Kathmandu, March 25
The central committee meeting of the CPN-Maoist began today with party general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa registering differing views on Chairman Mohan Baidhya’s political document on unity among like-minded Maoist parties.
During today’s meeting, Baidhya presented his document sticking to the party’s existing line of new people’s democracy. However, Thapa challenged it with a ‘supplementary’ document, claiming that honesty alone was not always the best policy.
Thapa said nationalism and new people’s democracy should go hand in hand in the changed political context.
On the other hand, leader Lekhnath Neupane also registered his political proposal urging the leaders to come up with a unified view before deciding to unify with other like-minded parties. Another leader Kul Prasad KC also registered his suggestions.
During today’s meeting Baidhya and Thapa put forth their documents and briefed the meeting on their documents, said Neupane.
He said the meeting would continue for a week.
