UML to support govt on basis of its policies, says leader Nepal

Kathmandu, June 7

CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal today said his party would support the government on the basis of its policies and performance.

The main responsibility of newly elected Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is to hold all three levels of elections in a free and fair manner, the UML leader said at an interaction organised here by Press Chautari Nepal. He also ruled out UML’s participation in the new government.

Referring to the Bharatpur incident, he flayed the Election Commission’s decision to hold re-polling in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-19 and said he believed the Supreme Court’s verdict on the issue would give a way out.

“If the new government tries to amend the constitution and increase the number of local levels in the name of ensuring wider acceptance of the national charter by sidelining the UML, it would not be acceptable to the party,” he said.

The event was also attended by UML Secretary and Chief of the Publicity Department Yogesh Bhattarai and PCN Chairman Ganesh Basnet.
