crime watch : 71-yr-old rapist

In an exceptional case, the Kathmandu District Court (KDC) released a 71-year-old rapist on a bail of Rs 3,000 today. Kabilal Timalsena (name changed) was arrested on April 15 on charge of raping a 10-year-old girl.

A single bench of judge, Tank Bahadur Moktan, freed the man citing his age and worse physical condition.

The man raped Ramita Kunwar (name changed) and gave her Rs 10 after the crime.”Since the accused has confessed to his crime and witnesses have given their statements accusing him of the crime, he is an accused based on available evidences,” the bench observed. It also imposed a bail of Rs 3,000 on him.

The accused had confessed to the crime before the Kathmandu District Police Office, claiming that he had raped the girl after receiving signals while they were alone.

Three commit suicide Sunita Lama, 24, was found hanging in her rented room at Mulpani VDC of Kathmandu this morning. She hailed from Phaparbari-9 of Makwanpur district. The cause of suicide is being investigated, police said.

A resident of Lalitpur Sub Metropolitan City-9, Ekraj Thapa, 19, committed suicide by hanging himself in his room with the help of a tie at around 4 am, police said. Investigations are on.

Indra Prasad Parajuli, 34, of Kavre also hanged himself in one of the rooms of a lodge situated at Old Bus Park last morning. His body was recovered from Manakamana Lodge. He hanged himself with the help of a rope at around 8 am yesterday. Police is investigating the case.
