Dahal-Nepal faction to hold cross-country demonstration on Dec 29

KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal led faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is set to hit the streets across the country on December 29.

The decision to carry out a nationwide protest was reached at the faction's central committee meeting held on Thursday. The protest is being held in opposition of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's controversial move to recommend the dissolution of House of Representatives, which was promptly approved by President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

Dahal-Nepal faction are calling this move unconstitutional and undemocratic. PM Oli had dismantled the Lower House of the Federal Parliament on Sunday, December 20.

On Wednesday, the faction also announced Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the parliamentary party leader. PM Oli was removed from the post of party chairperson, on Tuesday, by a central committee meeting conducted by Dahal-Nepal side.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the central members of the party close to Dahal-Nepal are planning to gather at Maitighar Mandala tomorrow morning, from where they will head to the Election Commission with a joint letter, and hold a press conference in the afternoon.

Moreover, NCP lawmakers close to Dahal and Nepal are also going to the Supreme Court tomorrow.
