Dalits, Badis gherao PM’s residence

Kathmandu, August 28:

The Badi Rights Struggle Committee (BRSC) today afternoon gheraoed the Prime Minister’s residence at Baluwatar.

The protesters blocked traffic on the route leading to the PM residence for around three hours from 2 pm.

According to the BRSC, a delegation of the agitating Dalit activists is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala at 9 am tomorrow. At an interaction organised by the Dalit Citizens Movement (DCM) here today, various leaders of political parties expressed their solidarity with the Dalits’ movement and backed the demands being made by the Badi community. Leaders including Shankar Pokhrel, Ram Kumari Jhakri and Dalit leaders Tilak Pariyar, Padma Lal Biswokarma and Rajesh Biswokarma told the interaction that the Dalits should struggle in a united manner.

They also demanded that the government address the genuine demands of the Dalits and the Badi community through talks.
