DANIDA chief to visit Nepal

Kathmandu, June 2 ;

The State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the leader of DANIDA, Carsten Staur, will arrive in Nepal on June 15 for assessing the scenario here.

“The visit was planned long ago and he will be here for assessing the present situation and also to know how Denmark can help Nepal,” the Danish ambassador to Nepal, Finn Thilsted, told The Himalayan Times. According to the envoy, Staur is responsible for total Danish development assistance to Nepal. The secretary is scheduled to meet senior government officials and other political leaders during his visit.

Denmark’s assistance to Nepal was Rs 1.2 billion last year, while the Danish ambassador recently said that Denmark was ready to provide Rs 500 million to the peace process in Nepal as per its next year’s assistance plan.

“It is for the government of Nepal to decide on the kind of assistance its expects from Denmark in the context of the peace process,” the ambassador told this daily yesterday. Of the Rs 2 billion financial assistance to Nepal, Denmark will spend Rs 1.5 billion in

development of rural energy for five years.
