Day care centre set up for senior citizens

Kathmandu, June 12

A senior citizen day care centre was established at Bhurungkhel in Kathmandu today.

“Realising the need for a day care centre for the elderly, ward number 18 of Kathmandu Metropolitan city established the centre,” said ward chair Nhuchhen Kaji Maharjan. The centre can accommodate more than 145 senior citizens. It aims to provide daycare services to males above 80 years and females above 75 years.

“In our ward, there are 800 elderly people above 60 years of age, 400 above 70 years and 145 above 75 years. The daycare centre will give special priority to senior citizens above 75 years of age,” added Maharjan. The centre will organise religious sermon and also provide open space for the elderly people to hold discussions.

“We have decided to provide Rs 12,000 each to senior citizens above 75 years from the ‘Metropolitan Special Fund,” said Maharjan.
