Detailed Project Report on monorail within a few days, says KMC Spokesperson Karki
Kathmandu, March 10
Cimex Inc, a private firm that prepared the feasibility study of Monorail project, is all set to submit a detailed project report within a few days, according to Spokesperson for Kathmandu Metropolitan City Gyanendra Karki.
Karki said, “We have asked for DPR, which we are hoping to receive in a few days. As soon as we get the report, work on the project will begin.” KMC had proposed to construct monorail stating that it would be more appropriate and cost effective than metro rail in an earthquake prone city like Kathmandu.
KMC officials also said that the construction of monorail would be 80 per cent cheaper than metro rail. Earlier, the government had decided to forward the proposal for feasibility study for operating metro rail in Kathmandu valley.
As per the proposed plan, the project will cover the 10-kilometre stretch. It is said that people can travel from Tilganga to Kalanki within 10 minutes if the monorail comes into operation.
The track will be later linked with a track from Kirtipur after completing the construction. Similarly, the report has also proposed another track to be constructed from Maharajgunj to Sundharat in the second phase.
