Deuba won’t be able to make it to CC meeting today

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli who chairs the Constitutional Council meeting has called the council meeting at 9:00 am tomorrow.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Ramesh Lekhak who is close to leader of the Opposition Sher Bahadur Deuba, a member of the Constitutional Council, said Deuba would not be able to attend the CC meeting as he had a busy scheduled tomorrow as well as the day after.

Lekhak expected the government to postpone the Constitutional Council meeting.

Section 6 of Constitutional Council Act stipulates that meetings of the council shall be held as required on the date, time and at the place designated by the chairperson.

Section 6 (3) of the Act also states that it shall be deemed to have achieved the quorum for holding a meeting if the chairperson and at least four other members are present atthe meeting.

The CC can take decisions only on the basis of consensus.

The Constitutional Council, which is chaired by the prime minister has the Chief Justice, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chairperson of the National Assembly, Leader of the Opposition party in the House of Representatives, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives as members.
