KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 10

A complaint was lodged with the Election Commission against the candidacy Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is contesting elections from his home constituency of Dadeldhura, stating that there is a discrepancy in his date of birth.

Deuba's rival Karna Bahadur Malla who is contesting parliamentary elections on Congress BP ticket lodged the complaint against Deuba, saying that his birth date entered on his citizenship certificate did not match the birth date mentioned in the voter list.

Malla has stated in his complaint against the prime minister that Deuba's citizenship certificate mentions his date of birth as 13 June 1946 (2003- 02-31), but the voter list has 13 June 1945 (BS 2002-02-31) as his date of birth.

Malla filed a complaint with the Dadeldhura Election Office seeking cancellation of Deuba's candidacy.

Dadeldhura Chief Electoral Officer Bal Krishna Wagle told The Himalayan Times over the phone from Dadeldhura that his office would take a call on the complaint against the prime minister tomorrow after hearing the PM's arguments.

He said his office would seek evidence from both sides and if more evidence was needed from the complainant, it would ask Malla for the same.

Wagle said his office would take a call on the issue tomorrow after going through relevant laws and rules.
