Dhading twin murders: PM, HM’s resignations sought
Kathmandu, November 20:
Sister-organisations of the political parties today condemned the alleged killing of Puskhar Dongol and Nirmal Pant by the Youth Communist League cadres. YCL, however, has denied the charge.
Mahendra Yadav, President of Nepal Tarun Dal, said YCL was hatching a conspiracy to delay the constitution-drafting process. He sought the resignation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam on moral grounds. He accused the government of protecting elements that gave rise to anarchy.
Ram Kumari Jhakri, President, All Nepal National Free Students’ Union, said the culprits should be brought to book. She added that YCL had resorted to violence to retain their
‘powerful’ image, and said they had confirmed their unruly nature with these killings. She said the PM should bar YCL from committing such atrocities.
“YCL’s actions best examplify the culture of impunity in our society,” said Jhakri. She added that the society was heading towards ‘socialist fascism’ while the main ruling party was not ashamed of such activities. Pradip Paudel, President, Nepal Students’ Union, alleged that the street vendors were a nuisance for the Home Minister, but not YCL, accusing him of protecting them.
Ajamaba Kangban, President, Democratic National Youth Organisation, demanded an investigation into the case and action against the guilty, besides compensating the bereaved family and declaring the deceased as martyrs.
Ganesh Man Pun, YCL President, said the allegations were baseless and that YCL had shunned
violence. He said they had demanded that the government formed a high level committee to probe the case, pledging support for finding the culprits.
He said everyone chanting slogans for YCL could necessarily not be their cadres, repeating that YCL would not be dissolved as it had the duty of making people aware.
Lekhnath Neupane, president of All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (Revolutionary) said sister organisations affiliated to the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML were adding fuel to the fire.
