KATHMANDU, AUGUST 1

The decision of the ruling party CPN-Maoist Centre to broadcast online their Central Committee meeting has caused disenchantment among leaders of the party.

Most of the leaders have expressed dissatisfaction after the CPN-Maoist Centre decided to stream the Central Committee meeting 'live' starting from today.

Yesterday, during the official meeting held at the prime minister's residence, Baluwatar, CPN-MC Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal proposed that the central committee meeting be broadcasted 'live'. His proposal was approved by members attending the meeting.

The Maoist Centre is going to broadcast the Central Committee meeting 'live' for the first time. Earlier, the ruling party Nepali Congress held the Central Working Committee meeting 'live' for the first time which made the NC appear more divided after the meeting with the note of dissent written by its charismatic Secretary General Gagan Thapa.

"Perhaps, this is the worst CC meeting of the Nepali Congress after its formation in the year 1946 following the merger of Nepal Democracy Congress, led by dissenting Rana families, and the Nepali National Congress led by B P Koirala," said Political Columnist Jiba Raj Pokharel.

Similarly, Learning from the NC CWC meeting, the Maoist Centre has also prepared to transmit the Central Committee meeting 'live'. However, leaders and members of the party seem divided on the decision.

The leaders have said that it is not appropriate to broadcast the Central Committee meeting, which is considered an important meeting of the Communist Party.

Pampha Bhusal, Vice-president of CPN-Maoist Centre said, "We have received mixed kinds of feedback from the members. Everyone doesn't seem to be happy with the decision. However, it looks comparatively a good decision to broadcast. It is going to make the meeting more systematic and disciplined."

"We are not following the trend set by any other party. It is the need of the current time with the advancement in technology," Bhusal told THT.

Central Committee Member of CPN-Maoist Centre Ram Prasad Sapkota Deepshikha has expressed displeasure about going 'live'. Taking to media, he argued that party meetings, home, family and life discussions are not supposed to be 'live'. He opined that one should be able to speak confidently and listen with joy.

"Party meetings should not be broadcast, party committees are like home, and a kind of family life. Life, home, and family matters or discussions are not topics to be discussed in a live session", he said.
