Disruption in Kantipur publications condemned

Kathmandu, September 28:

Different political parties, media organisations and others today have condemned the disruption in publication of Kantipur Daily and The Kathmandu Post.

“It is condemnable that the newspapers were not allowed to be published when the media’s role to disseminating information to the public has been increasing at this critical period of time,” stated a release issued by the CPN-UML.

The Nepal Students’ Union has stated that activities like this has unveiled authoritarian character of the Maoist.

“We request all to fight against attacks on the free press and to continue institutional development of democracy,” a statement of the NSU said.

Similarly, the Kantipur Chapter of Federation of Nepalese Journalist has warned that the journalists would be forced to come up with protest programmes against the activities, which harm journalists and employees.

The Kantipur chapter has further urged the Maoist union’s workers to sit for talks. “We condemn the Maoist union’s plan to close the publication. And we consider the incident as a serious conspiracy to snatch jobs of 900 journalists and employees,” the release stated.

The Himalayan Times Chapter of Federation of Nepalese Journalist also condemned the act of distribution of publication of the two national dailies and urged all the concerned to solve the row in a democratic way.

The Reporters’ Club Nepal also urged the journalists to take to the street to protest against the anti-press freedom activities.
