Docs stress on sincerety towards profession
Kathmandu, April 24:
Medical experts and practitioners today stressed the need to work with full dedication in their respective fields to achieve the objectives of loktantra.
Speaking at a talk programme on the ‘Role of health sector in Jana Andolan II, its achievements and future prospects’ organised by the Nepal Students’ Union, Institute of Medicine (NSU-IOM), Professor Dr Mahesh Khakurel, executive director of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), said: “We have a responsibility towards our patients, who should be treated with full dedication.” He said medical practitioners should not only run after money.
He blamed the government for not giving importance to education and health after the success of the Jana Andolan II.
Prof Dev Narayan Shah said: “We should not let the spirit of the revolution fade away and at the same time be dedicated to our primary task as a medical practitioner.” He said medical practitioners should be honest towards their profession. “If we are not sincere towards our job, it will hamper national development,” Shah added.
Manoj Kumar Poudel, president of the NSU-IOM, said people should be educated to be healthy, which is also the prime duty of medical practitioners. He expressed dissatisfaction at the conduct of political leaders.
At the programme, students of the TUTH who had participated in the Jana Andolan II, were felicitated with letters of appreciation. The students also shared pictures of the victims of the Jana Andolan II being treated at the hospital to review the spirit of Jana Andolan II.
