Don't involve PSC, CIAA in military affairs as proposed in statute draft, demands NA
KATHMANDU: Expressing its concerns over provisions included in the draft of constitution, the Nepal Army demanded that the Public Service Commission (PSC) should not be involved in recruitment, appointment and promotion of army personnel.
Also, the NA suggested that the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) should not be given a right to investigate into conducts of the Army.
Submitting its suggestions on the draft constitution to NA Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, the national secuirty force said that the Army Act itself is sufficient to manage recruitment, promotion and affairs regarding rewards and punishments.
Likewise, the NA demanded that the Chief of Army Staff be included in the National Defence Council.
The President should appoint the Chief of Army Staff upon a recommendation from the Cabinet, it added.
According to Directorate of Public Relations of the NA, CoAS Gaurav Shumsher Rana met the President and the Prime Minister on Sunday and Saturday respectively and furnished the suggestions.
