KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has elected Dor Mani Poudel as the Parliamentary Party leader for Province 3.

Leader Poudel mustered 34 votes against 24 votes received by his contender Shakya in the election held at the Chyasal-based Tulsi Lal Memorial Foundation in Lalitpur today.

With this win, Poudel is likely to become the first Chief Minister of Province 3.

Former Mayor of Hetauda Municipality, Poudel was elected Province Assembly member from Makawanpur district. There are altogether 58 PA members of UML in Province 3.

Leader Rajendra Pandey, who was earlier slated to vie for the party’s provincial parliamentary party leader in Province 3, did not submit his candidacy. Leader Pandey had extended support to Ashta Lakshmi Shakya.

Since the UML Party could not work out agreement on names for parliamentary party leaders, Shakya and Dor Mani Poudel filed candidacy for the same. Poudel has contested from KP Sharma Oli faction while Shakya was endorsed by Madhav Kumar Nepal faction.
