Meeting between Dr KC, PM underway in Baluwatar

KATHMANDU: Dr Govinda KC, Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital is meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today.

The Doctor who recently recovered from health complications following a prolonged hunger strike is holding a meeting with the PM at his official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu.

According to Dr KC's close aide, Pritam Subedi, the meeting dwells upon the implementation of the recent nine-point agreement signed between the government and Dr KC. The government has agreed to amend 22 provisions of the Medical Education Bill in accordance with Dr KC’s demands.

Dr KC is meeting the PM to request the government to get the nine-point agreement endorsed through the Cabinet as 8th point of agreement states that the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology would register the agreement in the Cabinet for endorsement. However, the agreement does not mention any time frame for endorsement of the agreement, Dr KC is of the view that the government should not delay the endorsement.

The meeting, originally scheduled to take place at 11:00 am almost delayed for an hour while Dr KC accompanied by his aides were waiting for the PM.

Dr KC on Tuesday had said that he would launch a fresh hunger strike, if the government did not implement the nine-point agreement. He has staged hunger strike for 15 times since July 2012, demanding reforms in medical education.”
