Duo held for Buddha Chitta prayer bead robbery

KATHMANDU: Two persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a robbery of Buddha Chiita prayer beads worth Rs 500,000.

Dorje Lama (20) and Bikas Tamang (20) from Kavre district were arrested from Bhaktapur recently.

Police said the duo, riding on a motorbike (Ba 40 Pa 8472), robbed Surendra Tamang (22), a resident of Simaltar-8 in Kavre district, of 17 sets of prayer beads.

The victim immediately reported the incident to police, and a team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Jagati, had nabbed them.

Buddha Chitta is a tree with religious significance and its beads are used in prayer by Buddhists.

Further investigation is underway.
