KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 18
Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai was arrested late Monday night from his residence in Bhaktapur by a joint team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and Kathmandu Police Range.
Prasai had recently announced plans to launch fresh protests from November 23. It had been reported that security agencies had been monitoring him closely after he repeatedly issued provocative remarks, including warnings of nationwide disruption.
Police said he was taken into custody on suspicion of issuing statements aimed at inciting unrest and provoking violence.
Prasai had previously been arrested following violent demonstrations on Chaitra 15, but was later released by court order. A prominent pro-monarchy activist, he had also been pressing demands including the waiver of bank loans and was preparing for another agitation beginning Mangsir 7.
