5.3 ML quake shakes Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU: A strong jolt of local magnitude 5.3 was felt across the Kathmandu Valley and neighbouring districts at 10 am on Thursday.

The National Seismological Centre (NSC) reported that the quake had its epicentre near Bhotekoshi in Sindhupalchok district.

It was an aftershock of the magnitude-7.6 April 25 Gorkha earthquake, according to the NSC.

According to the NSC records, the number of aftershocks of Gorkha earthquake with magnitude 4.0 or above has reached 408 with the Thursday tremor.

The last aftershock of significant magnitude 5 or above was felt on August 30 with the epicentre in Sindhupalchok.

Two days earlier, the NSC had recorded an aftershock of magnitude 4.3 with epicentre in Rasuwa at 6: 55 pm.
