EC asks candidates to submit their election expenditure details

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has directed the political parties and candidates of the recently held elections to the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies to submit the details of their election expenditure.

The Commission asked the candidates of first-past-the-post election and proportional representation election held on November 26 and December 7 to submit the expenditure details.

As per legal provision anyone participating in the election must submit his/her details of election expenditure within 35 days of the election. “Action would be taken against the candidates and parties failing to submit their expenditure details.”

The candidates to the first-past-the post election have to submit their election expenditure details at the concerned District Election Office and Regional Election Office.

Spokesperson at EC, Dinesh Kumar Ghimire, said that candidates towards proportional category have to submit the election expenditure details at the office of the Proportional Election Officer.

Political parties or candidates not making such details public may be fined Rs. 15,000 as per Sub-clause (4) of Clause 31 of the regulations and order it to do it by giving an appropriate deadline.

The EC has also meanwhile appealed to all the political parties and candidates who stood in the recent elections to clean up the election publicity materials they used during the campaigning.
