EC to review elections

Kathmandu, March 27

The Election Commission said it would review the recently held local, provincial and parliamentary elections.

EC Commissioner Narendra Dahal said the poll panel would analyse peace and security issues, poll code violations and their nature, and people’s feedback on its role.

“Now all elections have been completed. We will review all issues relating to the elections,” said  Dahal. He said the poll panel would adopt corrective measures, if needed.

According to Dahal, the election body will also discuss the Supreme Court verdict in the review meeting.

The SC on Wednesday issued a directive order in the name of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers  and other ministries concerned, including Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Election Commission, to ensure voting rights of Nepali migrant workers. “We will study the possibility of providing voting rights to migrant workers,” said Dahal.

He said the EC would clarify to the SC if ensuring voting rights to migrant workers was not possible. Over four million Nepali voters are said to be living in 110 different countries.
