Election Commission to set up office for poll observers

Kathmandu, September 12:

The Election Commission (EC) is setting up the Electoral Observation Resource Centre by mid-September to facilitate activities of both domestic and international poll observers.

“The centre will be set up by September 15,” Dhruva Dhakal, an official at the EC said today. A building opposite to the EC that was previously used by the British Council will house the office, he said. The UN Peace Trust Fund is funding US $195,000 for the project.

The United Nations Development Programme is assisting the EC in setting up the centre, which “will serve as a clearing house and central repository for sharing information resource materials related to election observation.”
