Some 7000 lawyers, out of the 9194 total voters, today queued up in 33 polling centres nationwide to cast their votes for the new 17-member executive committee of Nepal Bar Association (NBA), an umbrella organisation of Nepali lawyers.

The NBA has claimed that 70 per cent of the total votes have been cast today.

In Kathmandu Valley alone, some 4,012 persons, cast their votes to choose their leadership. Senior advocates Basanta Ram Bhandari representing the democratic section and Biswokant Mainali representing the “progressive” side are the contestants for the NBA top post.

Senior advocates Trilochan Gautam and Taranath Dhungana had also filed their candidature for the post of NBA president as independent candidates.

Due to the terai bandh, the result of the votes would take some more time to come, a NBA source said.
