KATHMANDU, AUGUST 15
The 77th Independence Day of India was celebrated at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu on 15 August 2023.
The celebration was part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', which was launched by the Government of India in March 2021 to commemorate the historic milestone of 75 years of India's Independence. The celebrations were commemorated with the hoisting of the national flag by the Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava. The ambassador also conveyed his greetings on the occasion to members of the Indian diaspora in Nepal.
This was followed by a video of the address to the nation from the President of India Droupadi Murmu. The president, in her message, recalled the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters toward achieving India's freedom and highlighted the country's achievements in various fields.
President Murmu said she had observed new confidence in the Indian diaspora towards the India story and added that India has been playing a crucial role in promoting developmental and humanitarian goals around the world. She also mentioned that India has assumed a leadership role in international forums, especially the presidency of G-20.
The embassy felicitated widows and next of kin of deceased Gorkha soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces by disbursing their dues worth NPR 5.33 Crore. The event was live-streamed on the Embassy's Facebook and Youtube pages.
