Kathmandu, July 22:
Student bodies of the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Pulchowk Campus, today submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellor of the Tribhuvan University, demanding the implementation of admission procedures in the engineering and cancellation of registration of new engineering campuses. Professor Dr Govind Prasad Sharma said the TU will come up with a positive decision on the matter very soon. The students alleged the IOE of announcing the new subjects and increasing the admission seats without informing the students. The students had given an ultimatum to the campus administration on their demand on July 13. As the administration did not heed their demand, they padlocked the dean’s office and the Institute of Engineering (IOE) admission committee on July 19, saying that the institute had given affiliation to new engineering colleges without fulfilling the criteria and had not been able to provide information on the admission quotas in affiliated engineering campuses. Nirmal Poudel, the chairman of the Free Students Union at the Institute of Engineering (IOE), said fresh protests will be announced on July 24. Similarly, demanding equal fees for private colleges and the Pulchowk Campus, the students of private engineering campuses, too, submitted a memorandum to the TU VC. The Association of Engineering Students-Nepal also announced further protests.
