Engineer sent to jail for corruption

Kathmandu, June 3:

The Special Court today sent senior divisional engineer of the Roads Department, Hrikrishna Bhagat, to jail as he failed to submit the bail amount. Following the hearing today, a corruption case was filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) against him. A three-member Bench of judges Top Bahadur Magar, Govinda Prasad Parajuli and Bhoopdhoj Adhikary had ordered Bhagat to submit Rs 6 million as bail amount.

The corruptin watchdog has filed a corruption case against him, charging him of amassing Rs 8.5 million illegally by abusing his authority. The CIAA has sought a two-year jail term and demanded that he forfeit the amassed property.
