Envoy Karki’s tenure extended

Kathmandu, May 9

The government has decided to extend the tenure of Nepal’s Ambassador to the United States Arjun Kumar Karki, whose four-year term is due to expire this month.

A Cabinet meeting held this week decided to extend Karki’s term as the ambassador to the USA until a new appointment is made, said the Spokesperson for the government and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota in his weekly press briefing.

The government led by late Sushil Koirala had nominated Karki as envoy to the United States in January, 2015 at the recommendation of erstwhile CPN-UML, a coalition partner in the Sushil Koirala-led government.

Karki was appointed as ambassador by former president Ram Baran Yadav in April 2015. He presented his letter of credence to the then US president Barack Obama in May 2015.
