The sixth Everest International Model UN, 2023 in partnership with the US Embassy in Kathmandu, kicked off in Kathmandu today.
Today, US Ambassador to Nepal Dean R Thompson inaugurated the five-day regional MUN in the presence of Minister of Youth and Sports Dig Bahadur Limbu and UN Women Nepal Country Representative Patricia Fernández-Pacheco.
A total of 200 delegates from 12 nations in South and Central Asia and five UN committees are participating in the conference. Youths from Bangladesh, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Nepal, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and Sri Lanka were welcomed in the 6th edition of Everest International Model United Nations (EI- MUN).
In the conference, the diverse group of participants will be discussing current global agendas while sharing their experiences and expertise. The conference will conclude with the delegates presenting their innovative policy recommendations that directly address the relevant issues.
"In order to maintain international peace and security and protect human rights around the world, global cooperation and collaboration are necessary, especially youths are vital," said Thompson. He further said, "It is an honour to host one of the most diverse Model UN conferences in the South and Central Asian region and provide a platform for the youths from different cultural backgrounds to tacklepressing global issues like affordable and clean energy, gender equality, structural unemployment, and cyber threats."
Everest International Model UN Conference, 2023, organised by the US Embassy, Kathmandu, is the 6th annual regional MUN Conference in partnership with the Youth Thinkers' Society.
Five UN committees which are participating in the conference are ECOFIN, UN Women, UN Environment Programme, United Nations Children's Emergency Fund and United Nations Security Council.
