Facelift for pond
LALITPUR: Nhoo Pu, a historic Malla-era pond in Lalitpur, is going to get a facelift very soon. The pond believed to be constructed during the Malla dynasty was losing its beauty due to encroachment and apathy on the part of the bodies concerned towards its conservation. Locals believe the pond was constructed even before the construction of Rani Pokhari in Kathmandu and acquired its name from Nhoo Pu, a Newari dialect meaning a new pond. Wild plants have surrounded the pond. The office of the Ward No 5 has taken initiative to revive the glory of the pond. Over 13, 000 fingerlings have been released in the pond and officials are planning to fence it from all sides. —HNS
