Fire at TIA grounds

Kathmandu, February 23:

A fire that broke in the open space near Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) this afternoon triggered panic among airport officials. The fire was doused within an hour.

According to a police source at Metropolitan Police Sector, Koteshwor, four firefighters and army personnel deployed for the security of the airport and Nepal Police personnel brought the blaze under control at the nation’s only international airport.

The fire began at around 2:15 pm at the northern side of the airport. Dry grass caught fire from unknown source.

No casualty was reported in the incident, the Metropolitan Police Sector, Koteshwor, said.

The police suspect the fire might have been sparked by a burning object like cigarette butt thrown by some negligent locals on the field covered with dry grass.
