Five hundi operators held with Rs 7.6 mil

KATHMANDU: A team of sleuths deployed by Metropolitan Crime Division on Monday has nabbed five persons including two Indian nationals for running illegal hundi transactions to evade tax.

According to MCD, police raided various areas in Newroad and Kuleshwor and arrested hundi operators in possession of Rs 5.3 million in cash, Rs 2.3 million in cheques and chequebooks and details of hundi transactions.

The arrestees were identified as Bijay Gupta (45) of New Delhi, India, Dipak Shrestha (23)  of Mahalaxmi Municipality, Lalitpur, Sanjit Pandey (29) of Khairani, Chitwan, Ankit Agrawal (29) of India residing at Tahachal in Kathmandu, Pujan Chala Jimi (18) of Mahalaxmi Municipality in Dhankuta.

A preliminary investigation has been initiated and the accused will be sent to the Department of Revenue Investigation at Pulchok for further investigation and action, police informed.
