Flaws in hostellers’ selection: Probe

Kathmandu, August 12:

A seven-member probe committee, formed to probe into the flaws in the selection of students

eligible for boarding the Kanti Hostel, submitted its report to the TU Rector’s Office today. The

committee was headed by Ganga Bahadur Thapa, chief of the Students’ Welfare Unit of Tribhuvan University. A source at the TU said the report, among others, stated there were flaws in the allotment of seats to students from Baglung, Gorkha, Dolakha, and Dhading districts. “Now that the hostellers have been moved out, action will henceforth be taken on the basis of the report,” the TU rector, Professor Dr Mahendra Singh, said. It may be noted that hostellers had demanded the TU principal to quit for moving them out. Declining to divulge the details of the report, he said the TU will make the report public soon by organising a press conference. The TU Rector’s Office formed the committee on Wednesday after the scuffle between the Nepal Students’ Unions and the TU Principal’s office over the hostel quotas worsened.
