FNJ denounces death threat on Kantipur scribe
KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has expressed a serious concern towards the death threat served on Awadesh Kumar Jha, a Sunsari-based journalist working for Kantipur daily. An unidentified group had threatened to blow up his rented room, on January 15.
Jha had recently published an article about Indian nationals receiving certificates of Nepali citizenship. "It is more than a threat to a journalist. We denounce all forms of activities against the press and urge the government for security to the journalists," FNJ said in a press statement issued in the capital today.
FNJ has also drawn the attention of law enforcement officials for identification of the group and action legal against them.
"Intimidating a journalist instead of taking a right track of legal remedy for any dissatisfaction over the published matter is but an attack on free press," the statement added.
