FNJ organises rally against attack on scribe

Kathmandu, January 1:

The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), Kathmandu branch, today held a rally against the attack on a media person on Friday. The FNJ demanded investigation into the incident and punishment to the guilty for attacking Bijaya Bisphot, the editor of Shram Bulletin weekly, on Friday.

Addressing a programme held here, Mahendra Bista, the general secretary of the FNJ, said journalists have to protect themselves from attacks from the state and the social evils. “We condemn this kind of irresponsible attack on journalists,” he said.

Yubaraj Bidrohi, the chairman of FNJ Kathmandu committee, said the police refused to listen to them when the journalists tried to file a first information report at the police station. “We will announce a series of protest programmes if the authority concerned did not punish the culprit,” he said.
