Former CJ Govinda Bahadur Shrestha passes away

KATHMANDU: Former Chief Justice Govinda Bahadur Shrestha passed away, at his residence in Sunakothi, Lalitpur on Saturday. He was 77.

The former Chief Justice had been receiving medical treatment for brain tumour. He had undergone a surgery at the Medanta Hospital in India sometimes back.

Shrestha was known as a justice who worked with the motive of making justice accessible. He had served as the Chief Justice for nine months 13 years back.

He is survived by a son and three daughters.

Meanwhile, his last rites were performed at the Pashupati Aryaghat today itself.

Chief Justice Sushila Karki had reached Aryaghat to pay last respects to late Shrestha.

Also today, a full meeting of the Supreme Court chaired by Chief Justice Karki has decided to give a one-day holiday tomorrow at the Supreme Court and to all other courts under it to mourn the former Chief Justice Shrestha's demise.
