KATHMANDU, JULY 7

Former federal and provincial lawmakers and leaders of the Maoist Centre have filed an application at the Election Commission demanding the scrapping of registration of the Maoist Centre.

The former lawmakers who had earlier been removed from their parliamentary seats by the CPN-Maoist Centre for defecting to the CPN-UML, proceeded to the Commission with their complaint, today.

The said lawmakers had lost their seats in federal and provincial parliaments, as well as Ministerial berths, following the party action in March.

Citing that the Maoist Centre in itself is an illegitimate unit, as it has failed to adhere to constitutional provisions aa well as political parties' act, the complainants filed the case reasoning that their action, in turn, too is illegitimate.

They have also questioned the legitimacy of the party as it has not held its long overdue General Convention.
