KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Coordinator of Naya Shakti Party Baburam Bhattarai will discontinue using services of his security detail from the first day of the Nepali calendar.

Bhattarai met with the Home Minister and the officials of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force last week and informed them about his decision to discontinue using two escort vehicles and security personnel deployed for his security, said Bishwadeep Pandey, Public Relations Advisor to the former PM.

He also requested the concerned authorities to review the misuse of security personnel in the name of VIP security. Bhattarai will now use only one or two Personal Security Officers (PSOs), informed Pandey.

Former PM Bhattarai has been quite vocal about the misuse of security personnel by political leadership, administrative and security-force officials for a long time.
