Former speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara moves Patan High Court

Kathmandu, November 21

Former speaker of the House of Representatives Krishna Bahadur Mahara has filed an appeal at the Patan High Court challenging the decision of Kathmandu District Court to send him to custody on attempt-to-rape charges.

On November 4, Judge Sudarsan Raj Pandey of Kathmandu District Court  had remanded Mahara to judicial custody till the adjudication of the case.

A staffer at the Parliament Secretariat had filed an FIR on October-4, accusing Mahara of attempting to rape her on the night of September-29, in her rented room at Tinkune, Kathmandu.

Advocate Murari  Sapkota told THT that KDC’s decision of finding Mahara guilty on the basis of prima-facie evidences was not justifiable, as the evidences provided at the court were not clear.

Sapkota said they had demanded the HC to release Mahara on general date or on bail until adjudication of the case.
