Four counterfeiters of US Visa in police net

KATHMANDU: A special squad dispatched from Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) on Monday night nabbed four persons for their alleged link with forgery racketeers. The police had acted on a tip-off provided by the victims, leading to their arrest.

In a press meet in the capital today, SSP Rana Bahadur Chand, in-charge, MPCD said that police had arrested Raj Kumar Rai, 26, hailing from Kolbung- 3 of Ilam, Rom Malla, 32, and Firu Lal Chaudhary, 45, both from Pratappur- 2 of Kailali and Manoj Lama, 23, from Bengdabar- 5 of Dhanusa. They have admitted that they have been working as counterfeiters and fleecing money by selling fake US Visa.

"A preliminary investigation into the case suggested that they had been masterminding the crime for long," said SSP Chand. They are undergoing trial as per the Anti-Forgery Act and have been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka for further investigation.

The police also seized a bundle of fake letter pads, certificates, licenses, stamp pads and signatures seal of various government bodies and officials, five passports, printers, a scanner, an exposure machine, a monitor and the like from them. Last week, the group had asked Bal Bahadur Rai, a victim, to pay Rs 1 million and collect his US Visa. "The forgers have been fleecing people by promising visa for various countries. In reality, the victims never ever got through the immigration said Chand.
