Four held on looting charges

Kathmandu, February 6:

A police team from the Valley Crime Investigation Branch (VCIB) yesterday arrested four persons on two separate looting charges.

According to the police, taxi driver Min Basnet and Shambhu Khadka of Hokse in Kavre and Jeeban Thapa of Udipur-6 in Lamjung were arrested from Lazimpat.

Police said the three looted Pawan Kumar Singh, an Indian national, off Indian Rs 6,000, NRs 2,000 and an ATM card. Pawan was hiring a taxi of Basnet from New Buspark at Balaju to reach Radission hotel in Lazimpat when he was looted, police said. Another accomplice, also a taxi driver, is absconding.

The VCIB has sent them to the Kathmandu District Police Office for necessary legal action.

Ward Police Office, Baneshwor, arrested Kedar Karki, 24, of Makawanpur yesterday on the charge of looting a house at Sankhamul in Kathmandu on Friday evening.

According to the police, Karki was arrested from Koshi restaurant. Karki looted Rs 10,000 in cash and some valuables worth around Rs 50,000 from the house of Ramnath Budhathoki. Male servant Bibek Khatiwada, 17, was in the house when the incident took place.

Khatiwada reportedly told the police that there were two persons with Khukuri who overpowered him and took away the cash and jewels.
