Four motorcycles go missing daily

KATHMANDU: On an average four motorcycles go missing in Kathmandu Valley each day, according to Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD).

The data unveiled by the MTPD has confirmed what the public has been clamouring for a long time.

From July to December, the MTPD has received at least 710 complaints related to motorcycle theft.

Of the 259 two-wheelers impounded for investigation during the period, the traffic police handed over 157 to their legitimate owners, while 35 others were handed over to Metropolitan Police Range for legal action. Similarly, 163 motorbikes and 40 four-wheelers have been sent to customs office for auction, according to MTPD. Any unclaimed vehicles or those without legal documents were sent to the custom office, said DIG Binod Singh, in-charge, MTPD, adding, “Carelessness is a major cause of the problem despite the fact that the people are well informed about the daily reports of motorcycle lifting.”
