France fully supports Nepal Constitution, clarifies envoy
KATHMANDU: French Ambassador to Nepal Yves Carmona on Wednesday said France fully supported Nepal's new Constitution.
Notwithstanding the joint European Union-India statement last week, in his meeting with UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal today, the Ambassador said the Constitution was complete.
"France has a long history of constitution making and amending," a French Embassy source quoted Carmona as telling Dahal, "It is an evolutionary process."
An EU-India joint statement on March 30 had called for “the need for a lasting and inclusive constitutional settlement in Nepal that will address the remaining constitutional issues in a time-bound manner, and promote political stability and economic growth.”
Meanwhile, Dahal in the meeting stated that Nepal was on the path of reconstruction, but still lacked investors in this regard.
According to Dahal's Secretariat, French envoy Carmona called on Dahal at his residence in Lazimpat. They discussed the political situation of Nepal.
In response, Dahal said that Nepali people always had been capable of solving things on their own.
Dahal, however, maintained that though the Constitution was written by the people, there might be some issues that need to be amended in the near future.
