Free dialysis for kidney patients soon: Govt

KATHMANDU: The government on Thursday decided to provide free dialysis service to kidney patients in near future.

Minister for Health and Population Ram Janam Chaudhary said currently the government was providing Rs 100,000 per patient for dialysis on the recommendation of VDCs and District Public Health Offices but from the new fiscal year the government would make dialysis service free in all government hospitals.

He said government was paying Rs 500-600 million for dialysis of thousands of the kidney patients and now government would spend Rs 5-6 billion every year.

Minister Chaudhary said the government is also preparing to install dialysis machines at all the zonal, district and regional hospitals.
