Garbage in Teku for another week

KATHMANDU: All the garbage heaps within the city will be cleared by tomorrow, albeit to be dumped at Teku collection centre.

"Three fourths of the garbage was collected today and accumulated at Teku garbage collection centre," said Rabin Man Shrestha, chief, Environment Division, Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

A total of 278 vehicles, including tippers and tractors, collected garbage from Kathmandu streets today. "Fifty-four truckloads of garbage were emptied at Sisdole landfill site today," said Shrestha.

About 1,000 metric tonnes of garbage is awaiting disposal at Teku. "Remaining waste will be cleared tomorrow," he said. The garbage from Minbhavan, Kalanki, Samakhushi, Jamal, Tankeshwor and inner parts of the city are yet to be collected.

The garbage collected at the Teku centre will be disposed of within a week, said Shrestha. "Gaijatra festival is going to delay the job," he added.
