Garbage management assured for next 15 days

Kathmandu, October 17:

Transportation of the Valley’s garbage to the Sisdole landfill site that was disturbed by a dissatisfied faction of the locals would resume from tomorrow for the next 15 days. The locals of Sisdole today decided to give the time for the initiation of promised development works in their area.

“The new ad-hoc committee today decided to provide 15 days time to the government to make a pond to collect the liquid leaked from the site and to initiate development works promised by the government,” said Arjun Neupane, one of the leaders of the new committee.

He said the flow of garbage was disrupted even after the agreement to allow transportation on Sunday because locals expressed doubt over the promise made by the government.

Neupane said a group of locals would meet minister for local development through the general manager of Solid Waste Management and Resource Mobilisation Center within two days and seek a clear picture of the plans to fulfill the charter of 28 demands raised by the locals.

Keshav Ghimire, a resident of Tallo Siudi of Okharpauwa VDC-4, said the locals have also decided to block the flow of garbage to Sisdole if the government fails to initiate any work even after 15 days. Though flow of garbage was resumed on Sunday, some locals including members of the dissolved Okharpauwa Sanitary Landfill site main panel had obstructed the flow of garbage.
