KATHMANDU, MAY 13

A fire caused by a gas leak in Makkhan Tole, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-24, claimed the life of an elderly woman on Wednesday morning.

According to Apilraj Bohora, spokesperson for the Kathmandu District Police Range, the fire broke out in a four-storey house owned by Dayaram Shrestha. "The fire started due to a gas leak. A body has been recovered, but identification is yet to be confirmed," said Bohora.

The fire also spread to an adjacent five-storey building owned by Rukesh Shrestha.

Firefighting units from Kathmandu and Lalitpur metropolitan cities, with support from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, and local residents, managed to bring the blaze under control.

Authorities recovered the body of a woman estimated to be around 70 years old from the scene.
