Gen Rana submits NA’s suggestions on statute

KATHMANDU, July 20

The Nepali Army on Monday submitted the army’s suggestions on the preliminary draft of the new constitution to Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang.

Chief of Army Staff General Gaurav SJB Rana handed over the feedback of the national army to Nembang at the latter’s office, according to the DPR of Nepali Army.

General Rana had submitted the national security force’s comments on the first draft of the future statute to President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Saturday and yesterday, respectively.

Expressing concern about some provisions in the draft, the NA has suggested that the Public Service Commission (PSC) should not be involved in recruitment, appointment and promotion of NA personnel.

It has also asserted that the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) should not be given the right to investigate the conduct of army personnel.

The NA demanded that the Chief of Army Staff be included in the National Defence Council. The President should appoint the CoAS on the recommendation of the Cabinet, it added.
